Where Is It Warm in November?

Thailand's dry season begins, and Bangkok at around 88 °F is one of the warmest places on the list. Dubai returns to the mid-eighties as the Gulf becomes habitable again — November through March is its season. The Caribbean comes out of hurricane season, and the southern hemisphere is warming toward its summer.

November has the most destinations with sea temperatures above 82 °F of any month bar October, so if swimming is the point this is a strong month for it. Singapore, Kota Kinabalu and the Andaman coast are all around 86–88 °F in the water.

November is the month where two reasonable answers point in opposite directions. Phuket averages 84 °F — comfortably the warmer option — on 188 mm of rain and only 249 hours of sunshine. Fuerteventura is 72 °F with 9 mm and 295 hours. Twelve degrees against twenty times the rain.

Bali makes the point harder still: 73 °F in the air, an 85 °F sea, and 354 mm of rain. The water is the warmest on this page and the month is a washout. A single temperature figure cannot carry that, which is what the rain and sea filters are for.

November is two different months on either side of Thanksgiving. The week itself is the single most expensive stretch of the American travel year and the least flexible — book it months out or not at all. Around it, November is a good time to fly long-haul: Southeast Asia's dry season is starting and Christmas pricing has not begun.

Three things move a fare more than the destination does. Book six to eight weeks ahead for short-haul and two to three months for long-haul or peak season — later than that and you are usually paying for someone else's cancellation. Fly midweek: leisure demand clusters on Friday evenings and Sunday returns, and a Tuesday departure is routinely cheaper for the same trip. And shift your dates before you shop for airlines — a day or two either side of a holiday weekend saves more than any loyalty programme.
