2.Mall of the Emirates
Mall of the Emirates is one of Dubai's original mega-malls and still among its best, a long-established Al Barsha landmark with around 700 shops spanning international high-street names, department stores and a luxury wing. Its headline feature is Ski Dubai, the Middle East's largest indoor ski resort, whose snow slope is built right into the complex — you can sit in the mall's cafés and restaurants and watch skiers and snowboarders through the glass, a surreal Dubai touch. 3.Gold Souk
The Gold Souk in Deira is not only Dubai's most atmospheric shopping experience but one of its great free spectacles — over 700 shops along covered lanes, their windows a wall of glittering 18-, 21-, 22- and 24-carat jewellery, from delicate rings to elaborate bridal sets weighing kilos. What makes buying here refreshingly transparent is the pricing system: the daily rate per gram is posted on an official electronic board in the middle of the souk, and every shop must honour it, so the gold itself isn't negotiable — but the making charge for the craftsmanship is, and this is where you can haggle 30 to 40 percent off with patience and good humour. Even if you're not buying, wandering the lanes among the dazzling displays is an essential slice of old-trading-Dubai, best in the evening when the air cools and the souk hums. 4.Spice Souk
The Spice Souk in Deira is one of Dubai's most sensory and affordable shopping spots, a small warren of wooden-roofed lanes lined with sacks and jars of saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, dried lime (loomi), rose water, frankincense and oud. Dubai is one of the world's great saffron trading hubs, and here you can buy it for a fraction of European prices — from around a dollar a gram — along with custom spice blends the merchants will mix for you, and fragrant incense that makes an evocative, lightweight souvenir. The souk is compact, perhaps 30 to 40 shops, but intense and colourful, and the traders are generous with samples and stories about origin and use. 5.Dubai Marina Mall
Dubai Marina Mall is a smaller, more relaxed alternative to the city's overwhelming mega-malls, set right on the waterfront in the heart of the Marina district. With a manageable spread of around 130 stores across several floors — a mix of fashion, beauty, homeware and everyday essentials — plus a cinema, a supermarket and a good selection of cafés and restaurants, it's the kind of place you can actually navigate in an afternoon without a map. 6.Ibn Battuta Mall
Ibn Battuta Mall is one of Dubai's most distinctive shopping centres, and worth visiting as much for its architecture as its stores. Named after the great 14th-century Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta, it's divided into six themed courts inspired by the lands he journeyed through — China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia and Andalusia — each elaborately decorated with domes, mosaics, murals, a full-size Chinese junk and a replica of a Persian astronomical clock, turning a simple shopping trip into a genuine sightseeing experience. 7.Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Souk Madinat Jumeirah is a beautifully designed modern reinvention of a traditional Arabian marketplace, set within the sprawling Madinat Jumeirah resort in the shadow of the Burj Al Arab. Rather than the raw hustle of the old Deira souks, this is a polished, air-conditioned version: winding wood-and-stone lanes lined with boutiques, art galleries, craft shops and stalls selling carpets, lanterns, jewellery, textiles and souvenirs, threaded through with waterways where traditional abra boats glide past.
